Google Photos Can Now Hide People

Whether you want to find or avoid someone,
Google Photos for Android's newest update
makes things easier.

The latest version of the app, v1.8, is rolling out
to users now with improved facial recognition
software and features. With the update, users
can now hide a specific person from appearing
under "People." This feature will also prevent
the chosen person from appearing in "rediscover
this day" cards. The photos are not deleted
from your library but are hidden, shielding you
from any unwanted memories, though not
completely preventing you from reminiscing
from time to time. The "hide a person" feature
is currently available on the latest update for
Google Photos on Android and will be rolling out
to the web and iOS "very soon."
Also in the latest Android update, Google has
added additional face grouping support, pinch to
zoom in search results, and "spooky fast"
performance improvements and bug fixes. Face
grouping - the deep-learning technology behind
Google Photos - originally launched in the US
and is rolling out to Latin America, Canada, the
Caribbean, Australia, and New Zealand. The
technology will also be available in parts of Asia,
the Middle East, and Africa. Face grouping is
not facial recognition like you'd find on
Facebook. Instead, the technology groups
similar faces and allows users to privately label
faces for quick search. The newest version of
Google Photos for Android is available now on
the Google Play Store.
